The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Singapore for the second time in promotional background last Saturday (June 17, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia. It was a fun night of bits that saw six of 12 bouts ending inside the space, and with that activity now in our rear perspective, let’s look at some potential matchups featuring a few of the opponents in the evening…
Bethe Correia vs. Liz Carmouche
Correia endured a third-round knockout against Holly Holm this past weekend and will be looking to return to the win column her next time out. I believe a matchup which is logical for her next excursion inside the Octagon will be one against fellow former UFC women’s bantamweight title challenger Liz Carmouche. It could be quite a rare”winner versus failure” matchup from the branch, but it is a pairing I believe makes a great deal of sense. I believe this prospective women’s 135-pound contest would be a good fit for the primary card to October’s UFC Fight Night in Brazil.
Colby Covington vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Covington and Dos Anjos were each successful in their own main card bouts at UFC Fight Night 111, with Covington taking a unanimous-decision win over Dong Hyun Kim and dos Anjos earning a unanimous nod against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine. It was a solid welterweight debut for dos Anjos, and I believe Covington would be a good opponent for his next outing, as the two of them are looking to break into the Top 15 in 170 pounds. This welterweight competition would be a nice fit for the card to August’s UFC 215 at Seattle.
“Stun Gun” Dong Hyun Kim vs. Alan Jouban
This potential welterweight showdown has of producing fireworks that are great possibility. It might also prove to be a lackluster struggle if Kim employs a grappling-heavy game program and finds success with it. I’m not sure he will though, as I could see Jouban maintaining the fight position. Jouban did show improved takedown defense in his final outing against Gunnar Nelson despite losing via second-round guillotine-choke submission after being dropped with a punch to the forehead. Kim is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Covington, and like Jouban, he will want to bounce back into the win column his next time out. I think this struggle would be a match for the UFC Fight Night in Japan of September.
